Make friends with your inner world.
A map to wander at your own pace, on your own or alongside your therapist.
Feelings are slippery. Maps are not.
A feeling is hard to hold onto. It shifts while you look for the words, and the heavy ones are the easiest to avoid without noticing. When a feeling has a place, you can point at it instead of naming it perfectly. You can visit when you are ready, and come home when you have had enough.
Meet your map
Twenty-one painted places, one for each feeling. Tap Safety Shores or the Observation Tower to open them now. Misty Isle waits behind its mist.
misty_isle
The feelings that are hardest to sit with live here, each with its own place, and each place guarded. The mist rests on the isle until a Protector has been thanked for keeping watch.
- Powerless Pit — Where your strength feels out of reach.
- Shame Shadows — Where the old stories follow you.
- Guilt Grotto — Where the apologies you owe yourself wait.
- Sadness Swamp — Where the tears sit heavy and slow.
- Fear Forest — Where the what-ifs grow tall.
- Resentment Rocks — Where the sharp words you never said pile up.
- Rage Rapids — Where the current runs hot and fast.
- Numbness Narrows — Where the caves go quiet and feeling fades.
the_crossing
The middle ground. Boredom Bridge, the Observation Tower, Curiosity Cove, and Safety Shores, the beach you come home to every time.
- Boredom Bridge — Where nothing moves and time stretches.
- Observation Tower — Where you can see the whole picture.
- Curiosity Cove — Where wondering is welcome.
- Safety Shores — Where you can rest and catch your breath.
sunlit_isle
The feelings you walk towards when you are ready. Trust Trail, Hope Hill, Joy Jump, and the rest, each with its own painted place.
- Trust Trail — Where you take the first small step.
- Hope Hill — Where the light gets easier to see.
- Passion Pools — Where the warm springs bubble up.
- Courage Climb — Where the path steepens and you keep going.
- Power Peak — Where you can see how far you have come.
- Joy Jump — Where the water splashes and you laugh.
- Love Lagoon — Where kindness pools and stays.
- Freedom Falls — Where the water lets go, and so can you.
serenity_skies
And above it all, Serenity Skies. Somewhere to breathe, above the whole map.
- Serenity Skies — Where everything settles, high above the map.
Meet the Protectors
The Protectors are the parts of us that learned to keep pain away: striving to feel good enough, keeping the peace, soothing the edge off things, hiding until it feels safe. It works, for a while. They keep watch at the mouths of the caves on Misty Isle, and when one has been thanked for keeping watch, the mist lifts for a while.
The Striver
working hard to feel good enough — achieving, fixing, analysing, staying busy, reaching for perfect.
The Peacekeeper
keeping the peace by trying to please others, avoiding conflict, using humour to deflect, and not wanting to burden anyone.
The Soother
taking the edge off through comforts — the scroll, the snack, the shopping, something to fill the quiet.
The Hider
keeping difficult feelings at a distance — retreating, zoning out, going blank, shutting down.
How does it work?
Arrive
One tap: Calm, Restless, Heavy, Foggy, Buzzing or Not sure. However you are arriving today is welcome here.
Notice who's keeping watch
Meet the Protector keeping guard today and thank it for its work. There is no wrong answer, and Not sure is allowed.
Pick a landscape
Choose a place and a length: 3, 10 or 25 minutes. Safety Shores and the Observation Tower are always free.
Explore and come home
Wander as far as feels right, one step at a time. Pause and Back to Safety Shores are always on screen.
Who is this for?
You, on your own. If feelings are hard to name and you want somewhere to explore them at your own pace, the map is yours: private, encrypted, and yours to delete at any time.
You, with your therapist. If you are a therapist, counsellor or coach, create a room, invite clients by email, and open Present mode to share the map on screen during a session. Your client decides what you can see, and can stop sharing at any moment.
How can it complement approaches like IFS and EFT?
Many people who wander here are already doing parts work. If you use Internal Family Systems or Emotionally Focused Therapy, the map gives you shared ground: a place to point at instead of searching for words, Protectors you can thank by name, and a way back to safety you can both see.
Wander Within is a self-reflection and discovery tool, not therapy or a medical service, and it does not diagnose or treat. It does not replace a licensed practitioner.
Safety Shores and the Observation Tower are always free. Go further with an Individual plan, or choose the Therapist plan for screen-share mode and session tools. Monthly or annual, and you can cancel anytime.
Hi, I'm Declan.
I spent six years in health and social care, including as an assistant psychologist and a trainee clinical psychologist. Since then I have written about health for a living. I am no longer a practising clinician. I built Wander Within because feelings are slippery and maps are not.
